Dear Patients and Readers,
It’s that time of the week where you can read yet another album review! This time I will be reviewing DAY6’s new album ‘’Daydream’’. It is their second mini album since their debut in 2015. What’s different about them is that they are an actual band that play their own instruments. I hope you will enjoy their music as much as I enjoy it!
1. First Time
The beginning of this song sounded like a song from the Lumineers. In general, the song sounds a bit different from what they released on their previous album. I like the synthesized harmonies in the background of the song. The song doesn’t sound bad, however, I don’t think I will listen to this song a lot. This is because I don’t think it is very catchy and it doesn’t give me a lot of feels. But the arrangement of instrumentals and vocals was very well done.
This song starts out very epically with the mysterious guitar and other instrumentals. What I like most is the chorus. It reminds me a little bit of maroon 5. It has more of a groovy sound than a rock band sound. Nonetheless it is a very good song. I think in contrary to the previous song, I will listen to this one again. The vocals are not spectacular but they sound very soothing to the ear and they really fit the vibe of this song.
3. Letting Go
This song hits me right in the heart. The moment Jae started singing I could feel the emotion. I also like that they started the song off with minimal instruments and then completely rock out when the second chorus starts. To some extent I feel this song was meant for Junhyeok since he had left the group recently. I was also very impressed by Wonpil’s vocals in this song. There is something about his voice that is very appealing. Also Sungjin’s voice was amazing as always. They all did a great job. The song sound very complete and sincere. I am glad they made this song the title track.
4. Sing Me
To be honest this song sound very American and it has that pop rock sound. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but I had hoped they would have made the song sound a bit more rock. It absolutely doesn’t sound like a bad song. I do think it sounds a bit mediocre. Especially since I heard their previous album. I think it had more identity. Don’t get the wrong idea though. I did like the song to some extent.
5. I Wish
This song I what I have been waiting for the entire time of listening this album. While writing this sentence I have only listened to the first 20 seconds of the song. I absolutely love the melody and the way they rock out with their instruments. When I listen to this song I feel some kind of nostalgia. I like that they go all the way with their vocals. It reminds me of those Japanese anime opening songs. This song has the jam potential for me.
The start of this song had me already screaming in my head. Like ‘’Blood’’ This song also has this very groovy sound. However, this one is well blended with the rock genre. The chorus is the catchiest one I have heard on this album together with ‘’Letting Go’’. This song is straight up jam material and It could easily become one of my favorites. I can instantly imagine them rocking out on stage with their tuxedo’s on and all the girls going crazy in the front.
In general, this album was pretty good. There were some songs that I really liked and some songs that were just okay to me. However, their vocals never seem to disappoint me. I think I will give this album a 7,5. You will be able to watch their Music Video below.
This was my album review! I hope you all enjoyed it and will anticipate my next review. Please state your own opinion on this album in the comments and I will see you next time!
